Digital ID: the road to totalitarianism (Article Published in Country Squire Magazine)

Dear Readers,

Digital ID represents the most shocking assault on civil liberties the UK has ever seen and surely contravenes Article 8 (rights to privacy) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Digital ID is not the same as an ID card: these are two fundamentally different things. Britons already have ID: passports, National Insurance numbers, Birth Certificates etc. Instead, Digital ID sets out the infrastructure for a social credit system that would put the UK on a par with China in terms of digital surveillance. Digital ID should terrify anyone who cherishes their freedom, anyone who remembers the videos released from China during the Covid 19 pandemic and anyone who has any sense of liberal values.

Digital ID is billed as a means of ‘stopping the boats’. We know that this is an outrageous lie and palpably false. The project was conjured up years before the migrant boats started turning up. Digital ID already exists for migrants wishing to work in the UK. It is called the ‘Share Code’. You can read about it here:

https://www.gov.uk/prove-right-to-work/get-a-share-code-online

In addition, all employers already have to make checks to ensure that a migrant is working here legally.

Let us be clear: Starmer has no interest in ‘stopping the boats’. We have a navy for that, but instead Border Force go looking for the boats every day in the Channel, so that they can escort them in. They fly migrants into Manchester Airport every night with the transponders turned off. Officially, these flights do not exist. I don’t wish to be accused of pedalling conspiracy theories, but one could make the case for the UK and other western countries wishing to bring about the chaos of mass migration, so that they could then introduce digital ID and claim that this will solve the problem. Instead of ‘stopping the boats’, it will curtail the basic freedoms of every British citizen in ways that many could not imagine. The purpose of digital ID is complete control over its citizens. It is a globalist project that has long been the focus of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Just watch any of their videos on YouTube and you will see what I mean. They don’t even aim to conceal it.

Starmer says that ‘you will never need to show your digital ID’. Indeed, that is so. Digital ID will be installed on your phone. That means every movement you make, every purchase you make, every time you go online, you will be monitored and logged. The implications of this are enormous and unprecedented. For example, WEF has boasted how digital ID will be used to not just monitor your carbon footprint, but to take control of it. If your carbon footprint exceeds a certain amount, the government will be able to prevent you from buying flights. This is because after digital ID comes the digital GBP and CBDCs (Central Bank Digital Currencies). The government could end up controlling how you spend your money.

Who on earth would entrust a government that imprisons people for tweets with oversight and control of their entire digital ID? The UK is arresting approximately fifty people a day for what are considered ‘offensive’ tweets. If a malign tweet that is subsequently deleted can land you a three-year prison sentence (as in the case of Lucy Connolly), who is to say that an anti-government message on social media could not end up with you no longer being able to access health care, with money being removed directly from your bank account to pay the fines, with restrictions on your passport etc? This is what happens in China. It will be the same in Britain too where Starmer is weaponizing the law against anyone that disagrees with him. Digital ID is not just about ID. It will be used in conjunction with the Online Safety Bill and the censorship regime that has overwhelmed the country. If you don’t comply with the new definition of Islamophobia, thanks to digital ID you might not just lose your job, you may no longer have access to your bank account or electricity. That is the digital infrastructure Britain is putting in place. If you think this is silly hyperbole, then cast your mind back to three years ago and the Canadian truckers who were debanked for refusing the mRNA Covid jabs. With digital ID, the government will be able to take these actions instantly.

In future, your digital ID will be connected to a vast network of facial recognition cameras. The UK has already one of the highest levels of camera surveillance in the world. Providing you have your phone on you, these cameras are now able to gain access to your internet protocol as you walk past them. Digital ID is just the last piece in the jigsaw. Once they have this, the government will know everything about you and be able to act upon it: what you eat, what you look at online, where you spend your money, what your carbon footprint is etc. This comes at a time when the UK is requesting from Apple complete access to encrypted cloud data enabling them to read all What’s App messages.

The problem with all this is that Britain is no longer a high trust society. The people no longer trust the police because they are policing freedom of speech. Starmer’s Britain is a society where people are being arrested for praying! Handing over complete control of your digital footprint to this overbearing and duplicitous government would be an unprecedented folly, and there will be no way back.

Digital ID is the creed of slaves and so antithetical to freedom that the relationship between the governed and the governing will never be the same again. It will be the State first and the individual second. The government will tell you that it is ‘for your safety’ and millions of people like sheep to the slaughter will not question it just as they did with the Covid jabs, but I can assure you this will end up in a dystopian nightmare.

There is only one way to stop this: not comply! If millions of people do not comply, then they can’t enforce it. The much-tainted Boris Johnson has said he will not comply. Rupert Lowe MP has done likewise. In just a couple of days, over two million Britons have signed a petition rejecting digital ID. Digital ID will require legislation. My best advice is: sign the petition, then write to your MP explaining why he or she must vote against any forthcoming Bills relating to this. Your MP represents you – tell him or her what you think about this!

Vietnam erased millions of bank accounts for people who did not comply with digital ID. Don’t let Britain become the next Vietnam. Britons must oppose this at every stage.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Stephen Pax Leonard
